CIFAL Saudi Arabia representing Majmaah University in Riyadh UNICCED COP 16

The Saudi capital, Riyadh, hosted the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) from December 2 to 13, 2024, marking the first event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region. Within the framework of this global conference, Majmaah University, represented by CIFAL Saudi Arabia, participated in this prestigious event as a remarkable achievement, being the only university granted the honor of presence in the Blue Zone of the conference.

This participation reflects the distinguished status that Majmaah University has attained both locally and internationally in the fields of environment and sustainability. The presence of CIFAL Saudi Arabia reaffirms the university’s leading role in supporting global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in alignment with its ambitious Vision 2030, which aims to promote environmental sustainability and combat desertification.

Majmaah University pavilion was designed to be more than just an exhibition space; it served as an educational, awareness-raising, and interactive platform showcasing the university’s initiatives in achieving the SDGs. The pavilion presented a range of pioneering applied initiatives that focus on innovative solutions to environmental challenges, emphasizing the importance of environmental protection, raising community awareness of sustainability goals, and fostering collaboration with participating entities.

This opportunity was also leveraged to showcase leading research projects and highlight the university’s role in building human capacities in the fields of environment and sustainability. Through its pavilion, the university ensured the presentation of interactive displays and informational materials that highlighted its achievements in combating desertification, in addition to showcasing its international partnerships that contribute to achieving national and global objectives.

Majmaah University’s participation in this international event represents a vital step toward exchanging expertise with global institutions and reinforcing its position as an active contributor to addressing global environmental challenges. The university’s pavilion was a notable addition to the conference, attracting the attention of participants and visitors from around the world, further enhancing the Kingdom’s image as a key hub for developing sustainable environmental solutions.

The university’s pavilion received visits from numerous delegations from different countries, as well as governmental and non-governmental entities and local and international organizations. Visitors were introduced to Majmaah University, its colleges, academic programs, and its efforts and initiatives in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. A distinguished group of university experts, selected based on their expertise and specializations, along with members of the CIFAL Saudi Arabia team, provided the presentations and introductions about the university.
